Senior Chief laid to rest

A casket containing the remains of the former Senior Chief Daniel Mugo Kagwi of Kerugoya location lies within his homestead at Waigiri village during his funeral ceremony yesterday within Kirinyaga Central sub county


A Senior Chief in Kirinyaga County who passed on after an illness has been laid to rest at his Waigiri rural home  within Kirinyaga Central Sub – County.

Former Chief Daniel Mugo Kagwi for Kerugoya Location died at a private medical facility almost aa   fortnight ago was eulogized as a dedicated public servant.

A Chuka University Don Professor Zackary  Waita while eulogizing him during the burial   said the deceased had  passion for education .

The Don, who was the deceased’s first cousin, recalled how both held some consultations on the urgent need to establish a day school at the nearby Waigiri primary school to  cater for needy children who could not afford fees for boarding schools.

“After that meeting there are now one or two University graduates  in every homestead within the locality and the mourners   at Kagwi’s  funeral today can attest to this ,”he said .

Addressing the mourners, Deputy  County Commissioner  Daniel Ndege said the fraternity had lost one of its key pillars  whose  style of service delivery was unrivalled.

“Kagwi who was humble and dedicated to his duty was such a resourceful public servant who always met his target with due diligence  without any supervision, “Ndege told the mourners .

The administrator however took issue with certain unscrupulous traders within the area who  have resorted to using  dangerous  chemicals to prepare illicit killer brews .

“But I must report to you that within Kagwi’s area of jurisdiction he had completely eradicated the illicit brews and drugs , a move his colleagues at Mukunduri village must emulate ,”Ndege said.

He said the chemicals were diluted slightly and packed in sachets which are then retailed cheaply to unsuspecting youths  whose lives  are cut short at their productive age .

Area MCA Eric Muchina asked the family to accept the reality since God’s case was not appealable and move on.

The leader said though Kagwi had left the world at his prime age , nothing happens without a reason .

He assured the Kagwi family that the children he had left behind would always be given first priority to benefit from   bursary fund.

“Despite being a  civil servant Kagwi interacted freely with all and the sundry and never in my life did I hear or see  any one pointing an accusing finger at him ,”Muchina said.
