A Kirinyaga County gubernatorial  loser  has  withdrawn a petition she had filled at the Kerugoya law courts against the win of Anne  Waiguru.

Purity  Wangui Ngirici who lost her gubernatoriual bid during the  August 9 general eelctions  to Waiguru told the court she would not wish to proceed with the matter .

Though her lawyer  Brian  Khaemba, the petitioner told the presiding Judge Richard Mwongo  she did not wish to proceed further.

Laywer Kamotho Waiganjo addressing the media  outside the Kerugoya law courts  moments after it emerged Wangui Ngirici had withdrawn a petition she had filed against the  August 9 kirinyaga gubernatorial win by Anne Wauguru this afternoon. Waiganjo and his colleague Paul Nyamondi were appearing for Waiguru who had been cited the second respondent in the matter


This development came about this afternoon when the court had organised for a  pre- trial of the civil suite and caught the court , the media and a skeleton  of the members of the public allowed in by surprise .

“While on my way to this court , I have received a phone call from the petitioner that I should  disclose that she  would not wish to proceed with the matter , “Khaemba submitted .

Mwongo then ordered  the petitioner to file  a formal application for  withdrawal of the case  .

Khaemba told the court he would be able to file the application within a week and serve  the   defendants  after which  a  direction will be given.

Lawyers  defending Waiguru led by Kamotho Waiganjo and Paul  Nyamodi  told the court they were not opposed to the application but would make their official position  after  making a reply .

The   matter was then adjourned to Oct 24  when the application will be submitted  for the court to allow or reject.

The IEBC which had been named as the first respondent in the matter was represented  by Charles Mwongela who was  physically  in court to handle case.

Mwongela was in the same court after the 2017 general elections  for a similar petition which had been filed by Martha Karua disputing   Anne   Waiguru’s win .

This  afternoon  following the unprecedented development ,Mwongo then   adjorned the matter until the fixed date while the media  cops  who had camped there since 2 pm  were left with no option  than  to seek for a sort interview with the lawyers from both parties.

During the disputed polls ,Ngirici   polled   105,677 votes   while   Waiguru won by securing   113,088 votes

Kerugoya Law Courts where the disputed Kirinyaga County Gubernatoriak election petition by a loser Wangui Ngirici was to start this afternoon but couldn't take off after she informed the court she was withdrawing the matter.


Ngirici is the immediate former Kirinyaga County Woman Representative after she clinched  the seat upon unseating Karimi Njuguna  who was the first holder of the position.
