
Ruto names his running mate
UDA Party Leader William Ruto has named his running mate early this afternoon ending moments of tension and anxiety .
Ruto has settled on his loyalist Rigathi Gachagua after intense soul searching at his Karen residence .
And immediately after the long awaited announcement , residents of Mathira Constituency which Gachagua is an MP burst into jubilations and ululations unlike yesterday where they were chanting no Gachagua no Ruto .
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru who was among those touted to be named into this prestigious political position said she was comfortable with Gachagua taking the slot .
“Although I have missed this coveted number two slot by a whisker , I fully support the settling on Gachagua to deputise our incoming fifth president of the Republic of Kenya ,” she said at the venue .
Just like their governor ,Kirinyaga residents said they were okey with Ruto’s decision to name Gachagua as his running mate as the slot was only meant for one person .
But at Tharaka –Nithi , it was lamentations after a section of area residents accused Ruto of hoodwinking them.
“All through since UDA was founded we have been its staunch supporters after Ruto assured us that he will pick our own Professor Kithure Kindiki as his running mate until this afternoon when an announcement through live Television broadcasts shocked us all ,” cried the area residents .
They accused Ruto of shortchanging themand betrayal of the highest order despite having supported his party to the hilt.
Ruto was also accused of being thankless after Kindiki even represented him at the Hague when he and Uhuru Kenyatta faced charges of crimes against Humanity.
Outgoing National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi was also among those who had been touted as possible appointees.
Muturi who hails from Kanyuambora village , in Embu County is the DP leader which is an affiliate of the UDA while Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was also in the list .
All eyes are now on Azimio whose leader Raila Odinga is expected to name his running mate with Martha Karua of NARC-K being touted as the front runner for the position .
Others are Peter Kenneth , Muranga’s Sabina Chege , Meru’s Peter Munya as well as Whiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka .
