Church concerned over the volatile political situation
A section of the Clergy in Kirinyaga East Sub- county has expressed concern over the rising political intolerance in the country .
The Priests said the current crop of political leadership should emulate the style of the former president Mwai Kibaki .
The priests under the Kirinyaga East Clergy Forum Desk banner said during the Kibaki era , no politician would dare engage him in verbal exchange due to his good stewardship of national affairs.
The Clergymen who were addressing the media at the Divine Evangelistic Ministries Church , Kianyaga town this morning also took issue with the Director of Prosecutions Noordin Haji for declining to have politicians implicated with corruption charged with the said offences.
Led by their chairman Bishop Dr Jacob Kamau the priests expressed fears that such politicians should be arrested immediately and charged in court to avoid unnecessary spending public money only later to occasion by-elections .
“ As the church we call upon the DOPP to charge all those politicians implicated in corruption right now or else he resigns before it’s too late for failing to do so will be too costly for the nation ,”Kamau noted .
Said the Cleric “ the law should apply uniformly across the board while where an individual has messed up he should be held responsible individually and not an entire institution as has been the case,”.
The priests asked Kenyans to continue prying for peace and tranquility to prevail in the country during this electioneering period .
Added Kamau “ as the church , we shall continue to seek for divine intervention so that our country can continue enjoying the prevailing peace without which nothing could move on in terms of development “.
The priests also decried the underdevelopment within Gichugu constituency especially the poor road network .
