Politicians warned over hooliganism

Any politician caught hiring goons to disrupt meetings of his or her opponents will be dealt with like any criminal , Kirinyaga County Commissioner Moses Ivuti has warned .
Ivuti said it was undemocratic for any politician to hire hooligans to disrupt a campaign rally for his or her opponent.
Sounding the warning at the Kerugoya stadium this afternoon during the Madaraka Day celebrations , Ivuti said recently some politicians had hired goons to shout down and disrupt a rally which was attended by the Azimio presidential running mate Martha Karua .
“As a county security team we will deal firmly with any leader found engaging in this kind of dirty politics , and further warn them that they should look elsewhere and not in Kirinyaga,”he warned .
He also told area residents not to attend a rally of a politician they did not like but instead keep away to avoid confrontation.
“If you do not like politician XYZ please keep of his or her rallies or attend but do not utter any word that might provoke an ugly situation ,”he said .
A tough talking Ivuti disclosed that some arrests have since been made after some hooligans disrupted Karua’s homecoming procession while others were still being pursued .
“We want peaceful and mature electioneering campaigns during , when voting and even after the process , “he stressed .
Then fete was however marred by a massive boycott of the political class with only an MCA candidate George Kagori being present .
Area Governor Anne Waiguru conspicuously abstained from the fete as well as her entire administration .
