
Organisation mourns and praises former President Kibaki
The Kazi Mashinani Organisation has mourned the passing on of the former President Mwai Kibaki.
Through its Executive Director Joakim Maragia,the organisation also praised him for having played a pivotal role in the promotion of domestic coffee consumption.
Mararagia said it was President Kibaki who instructed his then Local Government Minister Karisa Maitha (now deceased) to allow coffee vending in various towns and urban centers a move that has witnessed a tremendous consumption growth.
“At the time domestic coffee consumption through vending was only 5 per cent as opposed to 60 per cent today and we in the sector owe it to former President Kibaki who we are still mourning following his recent demise and consequent interment at his Othaya home yesterday ,”Maragia noted.
The official said it was gratifying to note the tremendous growth in job creation following the legalization of coffee vending .
“As at today coffee vending sector across the country has created over 700,000 jobs and we all owe this success story to our former president Kibaki whom even in death still feel the impact of his hand in this now robust industry ,”the official said.
Added the official “ consumption of vended coffee is set to rise tremendously as the country enters its cold season which is expected to last until the end of August and this will be good news for the sector ,’.
Maragia has however urged vendors to observe strict hygienic standards as they went about their business pointing out that safety of the consumers was key to success of the sector .
