There is an urgent need to have all stakeholders meet at the Kirinyaga University over the prevailing state of insecurity at the institution, Gichugu MP Githinji  Gichimu has said.

The Legislator said at the rate at which students are being murdered and robbed , leaders and stake holders must hold an emergency meeting before the matter turns worse.

He said he will be alerting his Mwea  and  Kirinyaga Central counterparts Kabinga Wachira and Munene Wambugu respectively of the urgent need for the meeting since the university student population resides in his and their constituencies.

“The meeting will also include area security agents, the university , students representatives, and other key stakeholders where we will certainly come out with a solution to this unending insecurity ,”he said.

Githinji also said he will be seeking to understand why a police post which was put up at the periphery of the University  no officers have ever been posted there  yet it was built with  tax payers money.

“I would have expected the university to have embraced such a facility which would have definitely enhanced security within the  peripheral area of the institution but this  has not been the case , “he noted.

Added Githinji” it is  before  such a meeting  when the stakeholders  should visit the residential areas where these  students have rented their hostels to enable us understand the challenges they face,”

The matriarch died aged  102 years and was the mother to the  first Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi among others .

The late Wagatitu as she was fondly known by many was described as a very special person who was always   readily available to assist the needy.

Speaker after speaker showered her with praise more so when her husband was  polygamous but treated the children of her co-wife as her own .

One of  daughters recalled how her mother would insist  the children  of  the  co-wife should  go to  school and  even paid their schools fees against all the odds, and also ensured no one left her homestead without having  put something in the mouth .

Her fellow Christians also attested how generous she was and did not discriminate anyone who called on her.

The burial ceremony was conducted by the Kirinyaga Anglican Diocesan Bishop Joseph Kibuchwa assisted by several local priests and clergy.
