MTC set to be built in Kirinyaga
The government is set to put up a Medical Training Centre in Kirinyaga County in readiness for the opening up of a Level Five hospital in the area.
Funds and land for putting up the facility are available while construction work is set to commence before the end of this year.
According to the KMTC Director Muchiri Mithamo , the first bunch of students will be admitted at the College by next year .
Speaking at Riamigaa village ,Kirinyaga West Sub- County , Mithamo said since the construction of the ultra-modern Kerugoya referral hospital was almost complete, an MTC must be set up immediately in order for the facility to qualify as a Level Five hospital .
The referral hospital is also due for completion within the next few months and will have a state of the arts theatres, 342 bed capacity , provision of piped Oxygen to each bed , a HDU, an ICU , Renal Unit and a Mother and Child Ward .
The five storeyed complex is a flagship project of Governor Anne Waiguru who has since assured the area residents the facility will be a game changer in terms of provision of quality services .
While speaking at Riamigaa meeting ,Mithamo said the students who will be enrolled at the College will complement the provision of services to the residents as they went about their learning .
“Since Independence our county has never had an MTC while the neighboring ones have been having them where students from their areas have benefited from such facilities ,”Mithamo said.
Added Mithamo “ Once this facility is built and becomes operational it will certainly spur economic activities due to the high number of students to be enrolled ,”.
The county does not also have a teacher training college unlike Nyeri,Muranga ,Embu and Meru hence the push by area residents to have the two facilities urgently with past political leadership being blamed for the anomaly .
