Waiguru sworn in for her second term

Anne   Waiguru has been sworn in for her second and last term as Kirinyaga Governor.

Justice Hedwig Ongu’ndi assisted by the Kerugoya Chief Magistrate Alex Ithuki conducted the colorful ceremony held at the Kamiigua Youth Polytechnic grounds.

The ceremony attended by hundreds of local residents and foreign dignitaries amid the cold weather that prevailed.

The foreign dignitaries were from Canada and  Sweden while the Swedish Ambassador to the country Caroline Vicini attended the ceremony  in person .

Also sworn in was her running mate David Wachira Githanda , whom Ongu’ndi  asserted   was her college mate at  Nairobi University  and   a trustworthy  leader .

In her inaugural speech , Waiguru assured area residents of her total commitment in making the county rise further up in development  and  become great like others in the country.

“Even after we took over  in 2017    with so many handles  along the way , we were still able to achieve various  development projects though some are still either ongoing or about to be completed ,”she said.

She enumerated the various projects her administration had been able to achieve within the  first term among  them the just about to be completed Kerugoya  ultra-modern  referral hospital which will be the pride of the county   as well the surrounding ones ,”she said.

Added the  governor “ we are also in the process of completing a Fire  Station  in Kutus town which was started  late  last year in order to ensure business premises  , schools, homes and  public properties were well protected once the facility in completed this year,”

Other notable  projects completed are the Kimbimbi , Kianyaga and South Ngariama Maternity hospitals  and whose plans are underway to elevate them to level Four facilities , according to the governor .

Modern markets  , roads and other basic infrastructure are what Waiguru’s administration has achieved  within  her  first turbulent term and expressed optimism that what  was left incomplete will be done soonest she puts her  cabinet in place .

“Am going to put  a  very  robust cabinet that will ensure before my   final  term comes to an end , massive development will  have been achieved for the good of Kirinyaga people who have bestowed trust and honour to us ,”she told a cheering gathering .

Added Waiguru “ Now that  I have been sworn in my  second and last term am going to hit the road running to accomplish what we were unable to during the just ended period ,”

And Vicini told the gathering  she chose to attend the Kirinyaga Gubernatorial swearing in ceremony because  of the trust she has on Waiguru’s leadership .

“Waiguru is such  one great woman I admire due to her courageous and focused   nature   while discharging her duties, “the envoy said amid cheers from the gathering .

Vicini said her country was established under a democratic principle  and rule of law where political competition  gives equal opportunities  to both male and female gender .

She said she was hopeful many more women will be elected to various positions and appealed to the electorate to loot at what individual contenders were capable of  achieving and not mare political  party euphoria.

Area Senator elect Kamau Murango and the Kirinyaga Central MP elect Gitari Gachoki witnessed the ceremony  and battery of local elected MCAs.
