Massive development under way

A mammoth  peace rally at the General Kassam Njogu stadium ,Kianyaga ahead of this year's Mashujaa Day convened by leaders from Kirinyaga County led by PS Interior Karanja Kibicho 

The National Government is undertaking massive infrastructure development in Kirinyaga County ahead of  the Mashujaa  Day celebrations next month .

Among such notable development is the re-carpeting of the Gathigiriri – Wanguru road which passes near the local Airstrip  in Mwea .

The  celebrations  will be held at the Wanguru stadium which is also undergoing modernisation at a cost of Sh 300 million to International standards .

According to the National Celebrations Committee Chairman  Karanja Kibicho  the development is in line with the government policy to carry out such undertakings in   Counties  where the fete is held every year.

Internal  PS Karanja Kibicho briefing the  media on the progress of the ongoing peace building meetings amongst  Kirinyaga leaders ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations at the General Kassam Njogu stadum yesterday.

“Since President Uhuru Kenyatta took over  the reins of leadership in 2013 , he came up with a policy to have the Madaraka and Mashujaa Days celebrated at selected counties outside Nairobi unlike before “, he said.

Kibicho who is also the Interior and Coordination Principal Secretary said any county which was chosen  to host the fete ended up benefiting from massive development as was now being witnessed in Kirinyaga .

“By having these Fetes at the county level and being presided over by the Head of State also provided a rare opportunity to see their president at a close range rather than when     they see him of Television ,”he added .

Yesterday during a meeting with local  elected leaders , upcoming ones and senior government officials at  the General Kassam Njogu stadium ,Kianyaga Kibicho urged wananchi to maintain the highest degree of  discipline during the celebrations .

Kibicho said  a series of peace building meetings are ongoing in the area and attended by the respective leaders where it has been agreed anyone who could be planning to cause chaos or  transport hooligans to disrupt the fete by shouting down the occasion would be dealt with ruthlessly .

“We must accord the highest respect to the Head of State on this great day be being calm and welcoming to  the guests who will  be accompanying him at the venue ,” the official said.

Gichugu MP Gichimu Githinji addressing the media at the General Kassam Njogu stadium , Kianyaga which was the venue of the ongoing series of peace building initiatives in the area ahead of this year's Mashujaa Day Celebrations which will be held at the Wanguru stadium Mwea.

And while attending such meetings , “General “Andrew  Ngirici has distanced himself from such criminal acts  and assured  the government he has since started preaching  peace like any other leader for the sake of the county though  harsh tag Kirinyaga Kwanza.

Ngirici who commands  a huge following in the area and who  admitted  he used to hurl insults at Kibicho has since tendered a public apology to the official and promised to ensure peace prevailed at all times .

He told the gathering at Kianyaga all leaders from the area should work together for the good of the people noting that regardless of the positions they held , they were still from the county.

The area Woman Representative  Wangui Ngirici who doubles as  the ‘’ General’s” wife also promised  to ensure peace and tranquility prevailed  before, during and  after the celebrations as an honour the Heroes and Heroines of the nation .

She has since declared her intent to vie for the local gubernatorial seat come next year and dethrone  the current holder of the coveted seat Anne Waiguru .

The meetings  which will continue through next week will also include church leaders since they also have a  stake in the matter , according to the coordination   and PS Infrastructure Professor Mwangi Maringa .
